GARNACHA TINTA

MARAÑONES TINTO 2023

Marañones 2023 is a site wine that clearly expresses the character of the local mesoclimate and the diversity of the three types of Gredos granites: white, brown and pink. The goblet-trained Garnacha vines, aged between 50 and 70 years, grow on sandy-textured soils and are distributed in small plots that, after blending, reflect a unique identity. The altitude, above 800 meters, allows for a slow and balanced ripening of the Garnacha grape. This privileged environment favors viticulture that is very respectful of the surroundings, generating an ecosystem that brings complexity and diversity to the wine.

Pure expression of the Marañones estate. The mineral personality of the granite. The vivacity of Grenache and the nobility of a historic soil. Texture, length and elegance.

A vintage brought forward by the weather

The fall of 2022 had mild temperatures, followed by a winter with rain and atypically mild temperatures for the winter season. Spring started early, bringing the vegetative cycle forward: weeping began in February and budbreak occurred in mid-April, ahead of the usual cycle. Flowering began in June and fruit set was reduced by heavy rains in late May and early June, which coincided with full bloom. June maintained moderate temperatures until July, when they began to rise. The grapes were harvested from August 22 to September 8. Conditions were optimal until early September, when heavy rains forced a brief pause. However, these rains did not affect the ripeness and quality of the grapes, and the harvest was completed satisfactorily.

Brown, white and pink granite

At more than 800 meters above sea level, in a mosaic of small plots, on a mountainous orography, we find the Marañones estate. In this environment we find a geology composed of granitic hercynian rocks, adamelites with megacrystals and torrallitic microaggregates. The small Garnacha vines that make up the estate give rise to Marañones. These vines are between 50 and 70 years old and maintain the traits of San Martín’s viticultural history. The slopes formed by the valley
where they are located provide an excellent opportunity for organic viticulture. This environmentally friendly philosophy makes possible an optimal balance in the estate’s ecosystem and in the personality of the wines.

Balance in every detail

Marañones 2023 comes from the estate of the same name, located high above the valley. During the harvest, the bunches were picked by hand in 12 kg boxes. The selected grapes arrived at the winery whole and were macerated with their own stems for 40 days. Fermentation took place in French oak vats of 3,000 to 4,500 liters and in stainless steel tanks, making pigeage. It was aged for 15 months on its own lees in foudres and French oak and concrete vats of between 1,000 and 5,000 liters. For greater protection, the wine contains sulfites. It was bottled in the spring of 2025.
